Holocaust From 1940 to 1943 the former excursion restaurant "Schloßhof" was used as a collection center for at least 248 Jews. The place was meanwhile called cynical "retraining camp", later Jewish labor place, then "Jewish retirement home Wickenkamp" and finally "Siechenheim".
On 23. March 1940, the "Jewish retraining camp Bielefeld" was relocated to the secluded Schloßhof. The Schloßhof was a forced labor camp from the beginning. The mostly young inmates had to work for ten different companies as well as the city of Bielefeld in road construction, civil engineering or industry. They were housed in the former ballroom and on the first floor.
In April 1940, the so-called "retirement home" was built in a neighboring wooden barracks without water and electricity, when 38 older Jews from Schneidemühl (today Pila, Poland) were deported to the Schloßhof. In 1942 they were deported to Theresienstadt or Auschwitz and murdered.
In the so-called "sick home", critically ill Jews were accommodated, who had to pay for their stay with their entire remaining assets. A quarter of these sick persons died because of to less care. The rest were deported to Theresienstadt on 12. May and 28. June.  [2
