  Biography	Annemarie - she arrived in NY after the war - she had a job as a governess on Long Island. We saw her quite often. As I remember it - she arrived from Africa - either from the Gold Coast or Ivory Coast as they were known then. I still have a bracelet that she brought my mother from there. That's where she was during the war. I always was under the impression that her husband had died there - did know that he committed suicide. Your info may be the correct version. I knew nothing of Jamaica Found that they both arrived in the NYC on April 19, 1935 on board the S.S. New York from Hamburg. Still listed as Weinberg. The next listing is on a ship that departed the next day and returned to New York on April 28, 1935. It shows a stop in the West Indies. My guess is that it was a cruise or that’s where they decided to live. The next trace I found was her flying to Idelwild!!! on BOAC from Nassau.. The USA address on the manifest is shown as 130 East 93rd Apt 33 NYC. This was on may 16, 1952. Hello David - A mystery - or at least a puzzle that you've uncovered - Annemarie appeared after the war in the role of a governess & widowed.  I suppose it's possible that she & husband left Germany in 1935 & were seeking a new home by trying various stops.  I know that they ended up in Africa & that he died there.  The Nassau trip in '52 might have been in her governess role - accompanying the family for whom she worked.  I remember the family home on Long Island where we visited a number of times - East 93rd Street may have been another employer - doubt that she could have afforded a residence at that address.  I also remember that she stayed with us for a short time - perhaps between positions - I shared my room with her.   [1]
