At 27th Aug 1938 (one day before Esther's 5th birthday) Miriam, his wife, committed suicide. Otto hired help to take care of the kids and the household - through recommendation from a mutual friend, Mrs. Hertbrun, he hired Mrs. Lisbeth Manaberg (divorcee Cohen) who attended to the children and the house. They eventually fell in love and married in 1943. They were married for a year before he died from coronary disease.
Youngest head of Radiology Department - at the Jewish Hospital in Hamburg. Served in the German army during first WW. As of 1933 all Jewish physicians in Germany were banned from practicing.
Came to Palestine, 14th Oct 1935, as a tourist to prepare for the arrival of the family on the Galil boat. Lived with Dantziger at Frishman St. in Tel Aviv until June 3rd 1936 when he brought the rest of the family. They all returned together on the boat Palestina. The British mandate allowed physicians arriving prior to Dec 1935 to practice that was one of the reasons he came before his family.
Immigrated July of 1936 with family to Tel-Aviv (first address was Shivtey Israel St.) partnered at 24 Rambam St. as a private radiology service. In 1938 moved to 4 Mazeh St. where he had his own radiology service that was adjacent to the living quarters. Held another post as head of Radiology for the Tel-Aviv Hadassah hospital. [1] |
